Android for Facebook: my favorite tips and tricks

We are the largest social network in the world - it has over 1.5 billion users - but even if you spend a lot of time on the Facebook app, you may not have researched everything it has to offer.  We came to replace this with a comprehensive list of tips, tricks and features to discover - including how to find Wi-Fi!

The best alternatives to the Facebook app for Android

  •  Facebook Messenger update
  •  Highlight recent changes Yes No

Whether you're running Facebook with Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or a reliable Google Pixel, you'll find these tips useful for ranking by your news feed, improving the security of your account, finding the best content faster, and sharing status updates more easily.  besides, more.

 Manage your notifications

Suppressing updates and alerts from your friends?  You will be comfortable with hearing that Facebook actually makes certain types of notifications on and off.

Go to app settings> You can enable or disable notifications for notification settings and wall posts, comments, friend requests, photo tags, event invitations and more.

 Find interesting places nearby

The Facebook app for Android can do some tricks that desktop sites can't do, like using your location better.  Select Nearby Places to find places around you with your own Facebook Page.

If you are in an unrecognizable part of the world, it is a useful way to discover restaurants, bars, shops or other places.  Tap any entry to learn more about that place.

 Filter your news feed

You will not settle for the standard news feed list of updates.  The Facebook application also gives you access to your customized lists from the main menu.  To change the list where someone appears, go to their profile and tap Friends> Edit Friend List.

If you want to add or remove all lists (such as 'family' or 'best friends'), you need to do this from a computer.

 Share from other apps

Sharing between apps is one of Android's strengths, so you should use it: tap the Share button while viewing a photo gallery, web browser or something else;  Facebook will appear among the options.

This is a great way to share something on the timeline without having to log in to Facebook, and you still get the usual status update options.

 Stop playing videos automatically

One of the most useful inputs in Facebook app settings is Video Autoplay.  Allows you to enable or disable autoplay or enable it only when you are on a Wi-Fi connection.

Save your data usage while you are out and also stop your news flow from turning into a dazzling list with cyclic cat clips and fun animations.

To save videos and links later

Many friends to browse, little time a day ... Fortunately there is a solution to this problem.  If you click the drop-down arrow next to a news broadcast post that contains a video or link, you can save the content to come back later.

The favorite content is kept under the heading in the Registered main app menu (tap if not visible, see under All Apps) so that it can return to the empty itself.

 Check your account security

From the Facebook app, tap Account Settings, Security and Active Sessions;  here you can see all the places and devices associated with your Facebook account.

If you find something suspicious, click the cross icon to log out.  Sorry to stay safe: if you made a mistake and signed out from one of your own devices or browsers, you can still login again.

 Choose your favorite friends

You can access your online friends by touching the vertical icon in the upper right corner of the Facebook app.

Choose Edit and bring the people you interact with to the top of the list, allowing you to spend time and effort hunting for your favorite friends.

 Hide a friend's post

Sometimes, you may want to stop seeing someone's updates without actually making friends or blocking them.  You can continue to claim that you are friends even if you never want to see or hear them again.

To do this, go to their page, tap Watch, and then select Unfollow.  They don't know, but they won't be able to see their posts or posts they've been tagged in again.

 Prioritizing your friend's post

If you want to do the opposite of the above, you can see the posts of a particular friend in front of the others.  Simply go to the tap on its page, and then see First.

Messages from this friend will jump to the top of the news feed and you will never miss them.

Use a more open, third-party app to save memory

The Facebook app is not only enormous but also a resource hog.  You can save space and memory using an alternative app, which is basically special skins for Facebook's web version, like Metal or Tinfoil.  Metal is a bit more beautiful and offers more features like a notification tab and floating window.  There is also an official Facebook Lite application.

Otherwise, you can add and use a shortcut to the Facebook website on your home screen.  In Chrome, you can go to Settings> Site settings> Notifications and allow notifications from the site, making sure they are turned on and unblocked for Facebook.

 Find Wi-Fi

Facebook has just introduced its new features to help users find the closest Wi-Fi access points globally.  A Facebook spokesperson said, "We provide people with a feature that will help them find a wireless internet near you to keep in touch with their communities and find experiences around them. We tested this feature and received great feedback;  also useful in areas where it is inadequate. "

Here's how to use the feature: Click the More tab (the three dash icons at the top right) on the Facebook app (Android or iOS), and then click Find Wireless.  After opening the Find Wi-Fi tab, open it.  Then, you can see all available hotspots near your location on a map plus the opening times of the businesses that host them.
